Karineh Kazazian, MD, PhD, FRCSC

Surgical Oncologist & Minimally Invasive Surgeon, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre

Dr. Karineh Kazazian is a surgical oncologist at the University Health Network and Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. Her clinical focus is on the management of colorectal and gastric cancers using minimally invasive and robotics techniques. Dr. Kazazian completed her residency training in General Surgery and fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the University of Toronto. She subsequently pursued an advanced MIS/robotic colorectal oncology fellowship at UHN. She holds a PhD in cancer biology from the Institute of Medical Sciences, and her academic interests center on translational research into mechanisms of gastric and colorectal tumour progression and treatment resistance. She has a secondary interest in quality in cancer surgery to improve equity in patient care.

Catherine O’Brien

Catherine Adell O’Brien, MD, PhD, FRCSC

Surgeon Scientist, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre

Dr. Catherine O’Brien is a Surgeon-Scientist who received gastrointestinal malignancy training at the University of Western Ontario and the University of Toronto. During her Fellowship, she also completed a Ph.D. at the University of Toronto, studying cancer stem cells in colorectal cancer. She and her team recently made a breakthrough discovery that cancer cells can enter a state of “hibernation” to avoid the toxicity of chemotherapy.

Fayez Quereshy

Fayez A. Quereshy, MD, MBA, FRCSC, FACS, FSSO

Dr. Fayez Quereshy is a Surgical Oncologist and minimally invasive surgeon. He specializes in gastrointestinal malignancies, specifically colorectal cancer. Dr. Quereshy completed his residency training in general surgery, and his fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the University of Toronto. He pursued advanced robotic colorectal fellowship training at the Queen Mary Hospital, University of Hong Kong.

Sami Chadi

150 150 UHN Colorectal Program

Sami A. Chadi, MD MSc FRCSC FACS FASCRS

Site Lead, GI Surgical Oncology Program, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre

Dr. Chadi is the lead for GI cancers at The Princess Margaret, section lead for colorectal surgery at UHN, and a colorectal surgeon with a focus on advancing minimally invasive techniques. During his general surgery training at Western University, he completed a master’s degree in epidemiology and research methodology. He went on to complete two fellowships in colorectal surgery and surgical oncology at the Cleveland Clinic.
