Tips for Talking to Your Doctor
Talking with your doctor can be tricky at times! Clear and honest communication between you and your physician can help you both make smart choices about your health. Before your appointment, make a list of any concerns and questions you have. Bring this list to your appointment, so you won’t forget anything.
Talking to your doctor can be difficult for many people especially when your appointment can be discussing important or emotional topics. Many people find it helpful to write things down before the visit. This can include things such as symptoms or questions you want to ask the doctor as it can be difficult to remember details in the moment.
Some examples:
- What problem or problems are you having?
- When are you having it?
- How often does this problem happen?
- How severe/bad is this problem?
- Is there something you don’t understand about your condition?
- Are there directions you’d like to review?
- Is there something that your surgical team can do to support you?
